Interpreter Performance Test Scholarship
Up to two scholarships are awarded per fiscal year to candidates wishing to take any interpreting performance exam (can be a retake). The exams covered include:
- CASLI Generalist Performance Exam (NIC/CDI)
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
- Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI)
- Other performance exams may be approved by the committee at their discretion
The scholarship amount will cover 100% of the exam cost in the form of a stipend. Proof of purchase of exam must be received within 24 hours of receipt of funds.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and open at the start of each fiscal year on July 1st. All applications for the FY must be received by June 1 of that FY.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must be a NMRID member in good standing for the current fiscal year, including up-to-date membership with National RID. They must be licensed and working in the state of New Mexico as either a certified or pre-certified interpreter. Please submit:
- A copy of your current NMRID membership card
- A copy of your current RID membership card
- Proof of payment and confirmation of an exam date
- Professional Reference
A one-page letter that addresses the points listed below:- Past involvement with NMRID or RID or your journey thus far in achieving your degree and/or certification goals
- Your personal interpreting goals (i.e. certification, educational licensure, specialization, etc.)
- What work you have completed to prepare for the exam
- Disclose any other financial assistance you have or will receive upon taking the exam

- Test of English Proficiency – Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI)
- Other written exams may be approved by the committee at their discretion

Professional Development Scholarship
NMRID will award professional development scholarships worth up to a total of $450 geared towards members who want to pursue further training to improve their interpreting skills. The professional development opportunities covered include but are not limited to the following:
- Mental Health Interpreter Training (QMHI credential)
- Center for Atypical Language Interpreting Program
- Legal Interpreter Training Courses
- Conference Admission
- Educational Interpreter Training Courses
- Medical Training Courses
- Independent Study Modules
- Webinars/Workshops
- Immersion Programs
- Trilingual Training Courses
- Formal mentorships
- NIC/Exam Preparation Courses
- Others approved at the discretion of the committee

Recipients will meet with treasurer who will pay the stipend to the appropriate program.

Mentoring Scholarship
Up to two scholarships are awarded for those who want to participate in New Mexico Mentoring. The award will cover the cost of the $40 application fee.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and open at the start of each fiscal year on July 1st. There is a spring session and a fall session of New Mexico Mentoring and awards are contingent on acceptance into the mentoring program.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must be a NMRID member in good standing for the current fiscal year, including up-to-date membership with National RID. They must be licensed and working in the state of New Mexico as either a certified or pre-certified interpreter. Please submit:

Business Expense Scholarship - The "Start-Up"
Up to $400 in scholarships are awarded per fiscal year to recent graduates from signed language interpreting programs or individuals hoping to re-enter the field of interpreting who may benefit from financial assistance to start their business.
Applicants may request what they are needing financial assistance with and the scholarship committee will determine how much can be awarded and if the request can be fulfilled. Types of expenses that one could receive award funding for include but are not limited to the following: license fees, background checks, equipment (webcam, lighting, a background), etc.
The scholarship amount will be given in the form of a stipend. Recipients will send receipts for what they purchased with the given funds to treasurernmrid@gmail.com upon purchase.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must be a NMRID member in good standing for the current fiscal year, including up-to-date membership with National RID. Applicants must either be in an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) in the state of NM nearing graduation; OR have graduated from any ITP and are starting their business in NM. Please submit:
- A copy of your current NMRID membership card
- A copy of your current RID membership card
- Confirmation having taken the CASLI Generalist Knowledge Exam (CGKE) an the Ethical Decision Making and Cultural Responsiveness Case Studies Exam (CGKE CS).
- Professional Reference – name and contact information
- A one-page letter that addresses the points listed below:
- Explain why you are applying, what exact business expenses you are requesting funding for, how you would benefit from receiving the financial support and your plan for working in and with the interpreter and deaf communities
- Past involvement with NMRID or RID or your journey thus far in achieving your degree and/or certification goals
- Your personal interpreting goals (i.e. certification, educational licensure, specialization, etc.)
- Six months after receipt of funds, recipient will answer the impact measurement survey they are sent by NMRID
